Beijing Will Lockdown Largest District for Mass Testing on Tuesday

**Beijing to Lock Down Largest District for Mass Testing on Tuesday**

**Beijing will lock down its largest district, Chaoyang, for three days starting Tuesday for mass COVID-19 testing, as the city battles its worst outbreak in months.**

The lockdown, announced by the Chaoyang district government on Monday, will affect over 3.5 million people and cover an area of about 690 square kilometers (266 square miles).

During the lockdown, all non-essential businesses and public venues will be closed, and residents will be required to stay home except for essential activities such as grocery shopping or medical appointments.

Public transportation will be suspended, and only essential vehicles will be allowed on the roads.

The lockdown is part of Beijing’s efforts to contain a resurgence of COVID-19 cases that has seen the city report over 100 new infections per day in recent days.

The majority of the new cases have been linked to the Omicron variant, which is more transmissible than the original strain of the virus.

Beijing has already implemented a number of measures to try to control the outbreak, including closing schools and entertainment venues, and requiring people to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test within the past 72 hours to enter public places.

The lockdown of Chaoyang is the most significant measure taken by the city so far, and it is a sign of the seriousness with which the authorities are viewing the current outbreak.

It is unclear how long the lockdown will last, but it is likely to remain in place until the number of new cases falls significantly.

In the meantime, residents of Chaoyang are being urged to cooperate with the authorities and to follow all防疫规定(anti-epidemic regulations)..
