Hong Kong Bans Chinese Covid-era ‘Vaccine Pass’ as Covid Surge Wanes

**Hong Kong to scrap Covid vaccine pass as cases wane**

HONG KONG, March 8 (Reuters) – Hong Kong will scrap its Covid-19 vaccine pass from Thursday, the city’s leader said on Wednesday, as the former British colony battles a fifth wave of the coronavirus that has killed more than 5,600 people.

The vaccine pass, launched in February, restricted access to venues including restaurants, shopping malls and gyms to those who were fully vaccinated against Covid-19 or had recently recovered from the disease.

But with daily infections falling from a peak of more than 30,000 in mid-February to around 10,000 now, authorities have decided to lift the requirement, in line with a broader easing of Covid-19 rules.
