The 19-year-old Stanford University sophomore is one of the top-ranked college tennis players in the country, and she’s also a passionate advocate for gender equality in sports.

In 2022, Zhang was named the NCAA’s Woman of the Year, an award that recognizes outstanding achievement in academics, athletics, community service, and leadership. She’s the second Stanford student-athlete to win the award, following in the footsteps of soccer star Kelley O’Hara in 2013.

Zhang’s accomplishments on the court are undeniable. She won the NCAA singles championship as a freshman in 2022, becoming the first Chinese-American woman to win a Grand Slam title in singles or doubles. She also helped Stanford win the NCAA team championship that year, and she was named the ITA National Player of the Year.

But Zhang is more than just a talented athlete. She’s also a dedicated student, majoring in computer science. She’s passionate about using her platform to speak out against gender inequality in sports and to encourage more young women to participate in sports.
